Joe's Diary: Toastmasters

I?ve just had a brilliant conversation with a Toastmaster, who I am definitely thinking of booking.  I thought at first that having one would just be an extravagance but it turns out that they do much more than just announce the speeches. A Toastmaster is effectively the official buffer between the wedding party and all of the organisational hassle on the actual day. They?ll make sure everyone is where they?re supposed to be at the right time (a loud voice will be very useful for that) but will also make sure that all of the details are taken care of with regards to the reception venue, leaving all of us to enjoy the day.

It means Pete won?t burst a blood vessel worrying about whether everything is happening according to schedule! It?s nice to think that if something does go a bit pear-shaped the Toastmaster will be able to sort it out so that it won?t impact upon our day. I think someone with such a grand voice in a smart red jacket adds a certain something to it all too. Oooh, I can just imagine being announced into the wedding breakfast!

Many toastmasters help well before the day itself as they?re used to dealing with venues and suppliers. All I need to do is meet up well in advance to talk through all the details.

It also turns out that they can help with speeches, so I must pass the number on to Mark so his Best Man speech doesn?t end up being just a long list of our most embarrassing moments or something worse. Pete could do with a bit of a prod about that? I think I?ll leave the toastmaster?s number on the fridge as a hint?.
