Wedding Customs

Wedding ceremonies have been around for thousands of years, and as a result there are hundreds of traditions and rituals associated with them all over the world.

Civil partnership ceremonies are in the unique position of being about commitment, love and lasting vows, but without the constraints of any traditions. When planning your ceremony, it can be rather daunting to realise that your options are unlimited. Perhaps you know exactly what you want - if so, great! But perhaps you are looking for inspiration.

If that's the case, this section may help. We at the Wedding Organizer have come across lots of traditions involved in straight weddings and decided to write about them here to see if they resonate with you when you're planning your ceremony. After all, these rituals all have done the same thing that yours will be - forming a bond between two people in love and wanting to show their family and friends how much that means.

So, we hope find you something you like the sound of and adapt it, or be inspired to express the heart of an old wedding ritual your own way, if that's what you want. Some gay couples have told us that they feel it might be hypocritical to use straight wedding customs, if you feel that way then you my want to reject all customs from straight marriage. But however you feel, we would love to hear about what you have done (or are planning to!) so that we can begin our own resource of civil partnership ceremonial acts that may one day become traditions. This is such an exciting time, gay couples have waited so long to be able to express the depth of their relationship, we would love to share with you how couples are designing their ceremonies in an area with so many possibilities.
