Joe's Diary: Videographers

Late night last night, went to Sally's to see the video of their (straight) wedding and I'm a convert! Pete and I talked about this a couple of weeks ago and I was dead against it. I was so worried that it would be really cheesy, that I would look awful and that it would be just too embarrassing. But seeing Sally's has really made me reconsider.

Sally says that she is so glad they went ahead because they got to see so much in the video that they couldn't possibly have seen on the day. The videographer was great and they were unaware he was there. He edited it all very tastefully, no embarrassing events or viewpoints included and he made Sally and Ian look so fabulous. Ian said that he's glad they have such a beautiful record of the day to show their children in years to come (so they are planning to have a family!) - as it conveys a lot more of the atmosphere than just the photos alone can. Even though that isn't on the cards for Pete and I, the sentiment is still sound.

They had lots of good advice for us when looking for a videographer - the one they used is booked on our day unfortunately. Obviously, any recommended by other couples are worth contacting, and we also need to make sure that we see examples of what they've done in the past to see if their technique matches our taste. I guess when we start contacting them we'll get a feel for the people in the company and how professional they are. If they are friendly, have demo material and send it promptly then that's a good start, just like any other type of wedding supplier I suppose.

Ian said he always asked how long they'd been in business as apparently the industry has a fast turn over of people so finding out how long they had been trading showed their commitment to the business.  It also makes sure that the videographer is experienced too. Now I definitely think we need to book dance lessons for certain if that's going to be filmed!
